Multiplier is a popular global Employer of Record (EOR) helping global companies hire employees in Asia and throughout the world. Here is my honest take on Multiplier’s service offerings in 2024.
Overview
Asia-based Employer of Record, Multiplier, was founded in 2020 and is focused on using its platform-based software solution to help companies manage global payroll and hire employees of workers from around the world. Multiplier’s mid-range price and service options position it to be a good solution for medium and large enterprises with distributed teams that need centralized management. It may be overly expensive and complex for small businesses.
Multiplier provides services as an Employer of Record (EOR), hiring full-time staff internationally with permanent or fixed-term contracts on behalf of its clients. This service also allows you to hire freelancers and independent contractors. This company helps businesses hire employees in over 150 countries worldwide and onboards them quickly and easily.
Key Features
Multiplier uses a software as a solution (SaaS) model to run its EOR business based around an online platform. The key features of this company include:
1. Multiplier EOR
Without working with an Employer of Record, you’d normally have to set up a business entity like a limited liability company or corporation in every country where you want to hire employees. Setting up just one entity can be tremendously time-consuming and expensive, and establishing many around the world is usually prohibitively expensive. With Multiplier, however, you can hire employees in over 150 countries by making use of an entity that Multiplier owns or one of its subcontractors.
These entities allow Multiplier to become the sole legal employer of your employees by contracting them permanently or for fixed terms to work for you. While you take care of their day-to-day tasks and schedules, the EOR works behind the scenes to manage the human resources (HR) needs of these employees over the long term.
Note, unlike some other EORs such as Remote, Multiplier does not operate solely through a wholly-owned infrastructure, and sub-contracts to other EOR providers in many locations.
If you want to hire independent contractors or freelancers, the platform can also help you manage their invoices and contracts. Multiplier also provides misclassification checks to ensure that your workers are properly and legally classified as contractors.
Unlike some other EORs, Multiplier doesn’t offer any recruitment services but instead requires that you find and recruit a worker yourself.
Once workers are on board, the EOR manages their leave schedules, payroll, and benefits administration. Most of these functions are automated through Multiplier’s platform, but the customer service manager (CSM) assigned to each client handles more specific concerns.
Critically, Multiplier handles legal compliance. It ensures that all local labor and tax laws are followed to the letter in the locations where the employers work so that they’re treated equitably, and penalties are avoided.
2. Payroll
Multiplier provides global payroll services as an integral part of its EOR service. Through this payroll service, Multiplier calculates employees’ gross salaries, including their bonuses, overtime hours, and any other additions. It calculates and withholds employee taxes and figures social security contributions from you and the employee. Finally, it invoices you to provide these funds and its own fees each pay period and then disperses net salaries to employees.
Multiplier is set up to accept payments in USD (United States dollars), SGD (Singapore dollars), AUD (Australian dollars), EUR (Euros), and GPB (pounds sterling). It can then convert your funds into salary, tax, and social security payments in the employees’ local currencies, as the law typically requires. It pays employees’ salaries in over 120 currencies worldwide, and for contractors and freelancers, this flexibility is expanded by offering payments in cryptocurrencies as well.
3. Platform
Almost all of your interactions with Multiplier are handled through its online platform which automates most HR processes for you. This platform has a user interface that’s clean, clear, and easy to use. You’re able to view your team and spending easily, and that lets you keep track of when employees start working and what they cost on a regular basis. Unfortunately, when you upload employee documents such as passports and CVs, they’re sent to the EOR’s team to process but aren’t available for quick viewing in your team dashboard. What you can access, however, are expenses, time sheets, time off and holiday calendars, freelancer invoices, payroll payments, pay slips, and more. Having all of this information centralized in a single software solution makes Multiplier a very convenient platform to use.
As an admin on the go, you can also access Multiplier through its accompanying mobile app to make quick changes and updates. Employees, freelancers, and contractors can also access the system to keep track of their benefits, like leaves and submit their invoices.
All of your interactions with the Multiplier platform are secure. It uses AWS cloud hosting and maintains personal data security by complying with the General Data Processing Regulation (GDPR)
4. Compliance
Because it owns entities in each of the countries it works in, Multiplier is able to legally hire workers around the world. In each country, it strictly follows the tax and labor laws that relate to things like working hours, overtime, leaves, public holidays, tax withholdings, and much more. The EOR prepares legal contracts based on these statutes and confirms that they’re being followed to ensure legal compliance. It can also review your contractor agreements to ensure that no contractors have been misclassified. All of this work helps you avoid penalties and damage to your reputation by keeping you compliant.
5. HR
Unlike many other EORs, Multiplier does not offer recruitment. Instead, its services begin with contract preparation and onboarding, which it can typically handle within one to seven days. It can also manage contracts for independent contractors and agreements for freelancers based on an invoicing system. This provider handles global payroll, benefits administration, leave management, expense management, and even termination notices and severance pay management as necessary.
Each Multiplier client is assigned a CSM to help them learn to use the admittedly complex platform and work with them directly to solve their HR needs. This support is only 24/5 and not 24/7 but can be accessed by live chat, email, and phone for customers’ convenience.

Unique Selling Point
Multiplier supports Employee Stock Option Plans (ESOPs) and can create these detailed plans quickly. This gives you an extra option to offer added compensation to your international employees. Through this option, Multiplier was judged the top global employment provider for employee stock options.
Overall Assessment: Multiplier
Multiplier is a good choice of an EOR service provider for medium and large-sized startups and established enterprises looking for an EOR-only solution. It is a cost-effective solution, but perhaps not ideal for companies that need recruitment support and a more comprehensive HR solution.
