Read my honest take on the pros, cons and best features of the Deel platform.
Overview
Started in 2019, Deel has developed a comprehensive platform to offer global payroll, human resources (HR) functions, performance, and compliance tools. The provider helps businesses hire employees in 150 countries by using its subsidiaries as legal employers for your employees. This enables your business to hire without having to go through the long, difficult, and expensive process of registering a business entity in each country where you want to hire workers.
Deel offers payroll services both independently in the US and globally or as part of its EOR services worldwide. The company also provides support for HR through its employee management platform and even supports global expansion by assisting in the registration of business entities internationally. With an unlimited capacity for hiring employees, Deel is a good choice for medium and large enterprises looking to hire internationally. Its prices, which start at $499 per employee/month on an annual plan, are relatively high but can be worth it for the services offered.
Key Features
Deel is a large EOR with at least 3000 employees. It offers a wide variety of services in support of companies in the US and worldwide. Deel’s key features include:
1. EOR
The main focus of Deel services is acting as an employer of record. Through its subsidiaries and in-country-partners Deel can legally hire workers and contract them to work for its clients. This workaround lets the clients avoid the lengthy, costly process of registering business entities abroad. Instead, Deel becomes the employees’ sole legal employer and also takes care of their needs long term. You’re able to outsource most of their related HR functions to Deel like payroll, contract management, benefits administration, and even termination.
You can also hire freelancers for individual tasks or independent contractors for long-term work. Deel offers an add-on called Deel Shield that involves reviewing each contractor’s role and work and examining the labor laws in the country where they live. This review helps you avoid misclassifying workers as contractors when local law says they should be treated as employees, a mistake that could otherwise lead to costly penalties like fines or bans in that country. Deel’s contractor support starts at $49 per person/month and covers payments and automated invoice management.
Like other EORs, Deel is responsible for legal compliance when it hires employees on your behalf. Its team includes legal experts who examine the employment and tax laws in each country where Deel hires. They make recommendations that allow Deel to quickly and easily generate employment contracts for employees that follow the law fully. As Deel also performs payroll and benefits administration, it monitors salary payments and contributions to taxes and social security to ensure these, too, are always timely and in compliance with local laws.
Deel does not offer recruitment services. It only lets companies hire international employees who they’ve already selected. Instead, its support begins by calculating how much an employee would cost, including salary, benefits, social contributions, and Deel’s own fees. If you accept these costs, Deel will generate a contract for your employee and enter into this contract with them. Once they are hired, Deel will collect the employees’ personal and payment information, sign them up to tax and social security programs as necessary, and bring them into your company’s employee management account. Onboarding can take hours to days but is normally finished in less than one week if the employee cooperates efficiently.
With Deel’s platform, you can easily manage all of your international employees. Your company is assigned a customer success manager (CSM) to work with and see to your needs. This person is your go-to contact for assistance, but you can also contact customer support 24/7 through live chat when you need a quick answer.
2. Payroll
Deel offers payroll services in the US ($19 per person/month) or globally ($29 per person/month) that help manage salary and deduction payments for its clients’ employees. This service is also a big part of the EOR service it performs around the world. Payroll includes calculating your employees’ salaries, tax withholdings, social security contributions, bonuses, and other deductions. The platform performs these calculations automatically while Deel employees audit payroll to ensure its correctness and avoid compliance issues. It pays and files taxes with each country’s tax authority creates records of all payroll activities, and provides employees with their detailed payslips.
Generally, employees must be paid in the legal currency of their country. Deel can pay employees in over 120 currencies and also provides contractors and freelancers with the option of receiving payments through Payoneer, Wise, and Revolut for increased flexibility. Deel also offers a Deel Card, which is a payroll card that works like a debit card for independent contractors in 27 different countries. These cards can reduce the wait time to receive payments and allow contractors to access and use their funds efficiently.
3. Platform
Deel boasts that its platform is for “everyone, everywhere” and it has a lot of reasons for making this claim. It helps you hire and onboard international workers, manage all of your workers’ HR needs locally and internationally, handle payroll, and maintain global compliance. You’re able to see as your workers are onboarded and view their important documents, salaries, and other costs. You can look into invoices for contractors and the state of your payroll easily. Unlike other platforms, Deel has a lot of built-in analytics that help you monitor and evaluate worker performance.
Another feature of Deel that makes it stand out is how well it integrates with other systems. Whether that’s accounting, time clocking, or expenses, Deel can integrate with over 100 popular applications to import or export data seamlessly.
Deel also has extensive security certifications that make it a highly trustable platform. It’s SOC1, SOC2, SOC3, and ISO27001 certified as well as GDPR compliant to ensure the safety of your financial and personal data.
4. Compliance
As an EOR service, the responsibility of complying with local laws rests squarely on the shoulders of Deel. It works with local law experts to ensure that all laws all current laws are followed and new ones are monitored so that your workers are always treated correctly in the eyes of the law. By maintaining vigilant compliance, Deel shields your company from legal actions, fines, and even country bans and lets you hire legally anywhere.
5. HR
The Deel system allows your company to outsource the many HR functions necessary for maintaining a team of international employees. While it doesn’t help with recruitment, it offers contract advice (recommending terms and compensation) and contract generation services before it hires and onboards your workers. Over the long term, Deel manages payroll, administration of benefits, expense management, and leave management for all of your workers. When termination is necessary, Deel can handle notice and severance pay as the legal employer of your workers.

Deel Pros and Cons
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Quick onboarding: Deel advertises onboarding in as little as five minutes, though this process usually takes hours to days. However, the platform greatly simplifies the onboarding process so that it can be performed very quickly when your employees have all their documents ready. | No recruiting services: Deel doesn’t help you recruit workers so you need to rely on your own internal recruiters or outside firms to help you find the workers you need. |
Automated payroll: You can choose to make a single payment that covers payroll for all of your local and international employees and contractor invoices. Payroll is quickly and automatically calculated and all your records are easily accessible. | High fees: EOR fees start at $499 per employee/month however this is definitely a starting fee and extra add-on services can quickly cause this rate to climb. Deel also charges extra fees for payments made with debit or credit cards. It also charges currency exchange fees that can increase costs for employers. These extra costs should be made clearer. |
Add-ons: Deel offers lots of add-on services for employee equipment, background checks, immigration support, and more. |
|
Excellent integration: Deel can send and receive data with dozens of other applications so you can easily integrate your tech stack. |

Unique Selling Point
In comparison with other EOR services, Deel’s USP is the platform’s high level of integration with other apps like accounting and clocking tools. This helps you share data across your tech stack and reduce the chances of transmission errors. For this reason, we rated Deel the best Saas platform for EOR services.

Deel is a highly integrated, versatile platform. Due to its extensive features and high price, it’s most appropriate for larger firms with extensive international teams. Smaller companies may not need the extensive additional services and add-ons that inflate the price of EOR services.
